Past  Continuous  Tense

                                      โครงสร้าง  Subject  +  was, were +  v.ing

                  จะเห็นว่าโครงสร้างของ  Past  Continuous  Tense  จะเหมือน  Present  Continuous  Tense  เพียงแต่  verb  to  be  ของ  Past  จะใช้  was  หรือ  were  ขึ้นอยู่กับประธานที่นำหน้ามา

                   หลักการใช้  Past  Continuous  Tense

              1.  ใช้  Past  Continuous  Tense  กับเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่ในอดีต  แต่มีเวลาระบุที่แน่ชัด

                   Jane  was  going  to  school  at  7 o' clock  yesterday .

                   They  were  playing  football  this  time  last  night .

                   At  the  same  time  yesterday  my  mother  was  cooking  delicious  food  in  the  kitchen  .

              2.  เมื่อใช้  Past  Continuous  จะให้ความหมายว่าการกระทำนั้นกำลังดำเนินอยู่ในช่วงเวลานั้น  ยังไม่สิ้นสุดในช่วงเวลานั้น

                  Tom  was  swimming  at  five  o'clock  .

                  Jane  and  I  were  singing  at  5  o' clock  last  Sunday .

             3.  ใช้ Past  Continuous  คู่กับประโยค  Past  Simple  Tense  ในกรณีที่มีเหตุการณ์กำลังดำเนินอยู่  และมีการแทรกของอีกเหตุการณ์หนึ่งกำหนดให้  Past  Continuous  เป็นเหตุการณ์

ที่กำลังดำเนินอยู่และ  Past  Simple  Tense  เป็นเหตุการณ์ที่เข้ามาแทรก  โดยมี  when, while, as  เป็นสันธาน  เชื่อมประโยคเข้าด้วยกัน

                   Dang  was  talking  to  his  friend  when  I  saw  him .

                   Jane  cut  her  finger  while  she  was  cooking .

                   They  were  watching  television , the  fire  alarm  rang  loudly .
